Best Street Food in Chiang Mai to Try - Suki Chang Phuak สุกี้ช้างเผือก
Welcome to the Legendary Thai Style Suki since 1992

If you pass by the Chang Phuak gate area and see a long waiting queue. it’s the famous Suki Chang Phuak สุกี้ช้างเผือก, Thai-style suki street food in Chiang Mai, and is my favorite place for suki to go to. The place has been open since 1992 for more than 30 years!

What is Thai Style Suki?

Suki สุกี้ is one of the common dishes that Thais love to eat. It’s healthy and you don’t feel guilty eating at night, haha. The ingredients are combined with vegetables (a lot of Chinese cabbage), meat (pork/chicken/beef/seafood), vermicelli, egg, and sukiyaki sauce (the magic ingredient).
You can have it stir-fry (suki-hang สุกี้เเห้ง) or soup (suki-nam สุกี้น้ำ) version. I prefer stir-fry, just my personal preference :).
What’s the Difference Between Japanese Sukiyaki?

Japanese style sukiyaki
The Japanese sukiyaki is a sweet black soup base (not that soupy, just a minimal amount to get the ingredients cooked). Then you add ingredients such as meat, vegetables, tofu, etc., and boil until all the ingredients are cooked. After that, you dip the cooked meat in raw egg and then eat. There’s also no sauce like Thai suki. Yes, Thais love sauce. We have way too many sauces!
What's Special About Suki Chang Phuak?

Of Course, you can have suki anywhere in Thailand, but the taste at Suki Chang Phuak is unlike any other. You can smell the aroma and taste the wok. The ingredients are super fresh and high quality (ie big shrimp size, good quality marinated meat). The vegetables are so crispy from the high-heat stir fry in the wok. Not to mention the signature suki sauce that is the highlight of the dish, and you can’t find these sauces in any other restaurants or supermarkets. It is so delicious and special!

How to order Thai suki?
First, select if you want - soup or stir-fry (i prefer stir-fry). Then you select the type of meat that you would like. At Suki Chang Phuak you can select pork, chicken, beef, and seafood and you can order extra toppings too if you like such as extra egg, meat, sauce etc.
Best Time To Go to Avoid the Queue

Suki Chang Puak queuing system
There’s usually a long queue waiting. Though the restaurant has a pretty good queuing and waiting system. I recommend that you go there early when the place opens, and pick up the queue. Then upon waiting, you can go have some street food to eat at the nearby stalls to kill time (I had grilled pork balls and a smoothie last time while waiting).

Don’t like to wait and queue up? I recommend you to go to the 2nd branch behind the Chiang Mai university.
Price The average price is around 60-100 baht per dish depending on what you order
